The African nation of Mauritius was celebrating the World Tennis Day in a unique fashion. The Mauritius Tennis Federation, Antoine Devasle (president B2T), Veronique Morrison (president of Handisport Mauritius Federation) and Ivan Syrov (Director of NEC ITF Wheelchair tennis tournament MegaFon Dream Cup) brought together tennis players from different backgrounds.
The beach of Tamarin Bay hosted the final of mixed-doubles Mauritius tennis tour 2013-2014. And right next to the beach tennis competition the Wheelchear National Team of Mauritius had opportunity to try and feel the beach game by playing on the lawn in front of the Indian Ocean, over the kids tennis net, with beach tennis racquets and the beach tennis balls.
4 women and 5 men participated in the game. The young Mauritius star Brandy Perrine (15 years old), who got an award as best Mauritian Handisport player of 2013 by the Ministry of Sport and Youth, and Veronique Morrison were officially invited to participate in Russian NEC ITF Wheelchair tennis Tournament MegaFon Dream Cup from 6-9 October 2014 in Saint Petersburg. By the decision of event organizing committee, these two players will have possibility to play without paying the entry fee.
Everyone had unforgettable experience and a lot of fun. The main message of the event were to unite tennis, wheelchair tennis and beach tennis in Mauritius and Russia. We are looking forward to continue this relationship during ITF Beach Tennis event Grade 1 in Flic-en-Flac. We also hope to organize some NEC ITF Wheelchair tennis event in the near future in Mauritius.
Now in Mauritius there are 4 women and 9 men wheelchair tennis players practicing constantly.
